Our sauna world introduces you to its stories: the Pfahl geotope, the salt merchants’ routes, and the snow-bedecked “Arbermandl” trees. 9 saunas and heat sources combine regional tradition with the soothing power of heat. Whether an intense 90°C or a gentle 40°C: here, you can enjoy whichever sauna experience suits your mood.

In the 70°C heat, your gaze sweeps across the Gäuboden region towards the city of Straubing. The Agnes Bernauer sauna tells the tragic love story between Agnes Bernauer, the daughter of an Augsburg bathhouse owner, and Albrecht III, heir to the throne of the Duchy of Bavaria. Sweating amidst legendary surroundings – all while enjoying an awe-inspiring panorama.

Pfahlquarz quartz sauna

The Pfahl is a 150-kilometre-long quartz vein running through the Bavarian Forest, formed 275 million years ago and the namesake of our Pfahlquarz quartz sauna. At 60°C, herbal infusions pamper your body and mind every 20 minutes. The silica in quartz is said to strengthen bones and fortify skin, hair, and nails.

Nebelwald (fog forest)

100% humidity, 45°C, and fresh, fruity scents such as vanilla and coconut. The Nebelwald steam bath offers a unique way to experience the Bavarian Forest – a tropical climate in the heart of nature.

Kräuterdom (herbal cathedral)

In this herbal mineral steam bath, at a temperature of 45°C, minerals and trace elements such as iodine, selenium, and lithium are released via the rising steam. Light and aromatherapy also boosts your circulation and immune system.

Supremely cosy and spread across 2 floors: from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., the lower woodcutter’s parlour with its wood-fired stove serves as a gentle, low-intensity bio sauna at around 50°C, also known as a gentle Finnish sauna. In the upper sauna gallery, which is entirely wood-panelled, you can enjoy a gentle sauna session at around 50°C from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In the afternoon, it transforms into a classic wood-fired sauna with temperatures ranging from 70°C to 85°C andsoothing infusions.

Infrared tepidarium

The infrared tepidarium, with its soothing temperature of 40°C, is also known as a regeneration bath. In the low-temperature sauna, you can relax on warm stone loungers while the infrared light warms you deep within, activates your body’s defences, and boosts your immune system. Regeneration at its gentlest.

In the Säumerwald salt graduation room, you can follow in the footsteps of the salt merchants who once journeyed right across the southern area of the Bavarian Forest. The healthy microclimate has a positive effect on the respiratory system and blood pressure and boosts the body’s defences. A piece of local history that leaves you with a profound sense of well-being.

Winterwald (winter forest)

The “Arbermandl” – as the snow-bedecked treetops on Mt Grosser Arber are known – can be found in our Winterwald snow cabin all year round. A snow shower or a little indoor snowball fight? The perfect way to cool down after a sauna session.
