A skier’s paradise: in the area around St. Englmar, you’ll find 3 ski resorts with a total of 13 lifts and 12 kilometres of slopes – the family-friendly Grün-Maibrunn ski lift with its small fun park, the Pröller Skidreieck ski area, and the fast-paced slopes on Mt Predigtstuhl. State-of-the-art snow-making systems ensure excellent slope conditions, and floodlit slopes on all 3 mountains mean you can enjoy skiing well into the evening. Particularly convenient: all the ski resorts are within a 5-kilometre radius of the Angerhof – ideal for relaxing winter holidays in Germany’s Bavarian Forest with everything close at hand.
The St. Englmar-Hirschenstein DSV Nordic Aktiv cross-country skiing centre offers you a first-class network of trails: 70 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails at 750 to 1,050 metres above sea level, suitable for both classic and skating styles. The trails range from the easy Hochwald trail (3.5 kilometres) to the challenging Hirschenstein trail (14.9 kilometres), which offers panoramic views of the Danube plain and the Outer Bavarian Forest. The Schwarzach–Grandsberg and Achslach–Kalteck cross-country ski trails are also within easy reach and offer even more variety for cross-country skiing enthusiasts.
50 kilometres of cleared and groomed winter hiking trails lead through snow-covered forests, over wide ridges, and up to vantage points offering views stretching all the way to the Alps. Join us on guided winter hikes as part of our weekly sports and activity programme and explore the Bavarian Forest on our snowshoe tours to quiet corners that often remain hidden in summer.
At the popular toboggan run in St. Englmar’s spa gardens, an approx. 150-metre-long toboggan lift takes you comfortably to the starting point of your thrilling toboggan ride. A snow-making system ensures reliable snow conditions, and floodlights let you enjoy the fun well into the evening. Rental toboggans are available right by the lift, or you can rent one free of charge at the Angerhof.

Right on the hotel grounds, our football pitch turns into an ice rink in winter – for elegant ice-skating and exciting curling matches. Another highlight of the Advent season: the romantic Christmas market on the Wald-Wipfel-Weg treetop walk, just 5 kilometres away from the Angerhof. You can also keep fit indoors during your winter holiday in Germany, whether on our bouldering wall, in the gym, or at one of our numerous exercise classes.
